Met deze eerste nieuwsbrief geven wij aan alle geïnteresseerde studenten informatie over de opzet van het ‘Inaugural World Elite University Football Tournament’ (WEUFT) 2018, in Wuhan, China.
WEUFT 2018 is een internationaal voetbaltoernooi waarvoor de Universiteit Leiden voetbalclub Football Factory voor het tweede jaar op rij voor is uitgenodigd. Vorig jaar werd het toernooi in Bejing gehouden. Naast Football Factory doen ook o.a. de University of Southern California, University of Melbourne, the University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Peking University, Renmin University of China en Tsinghua University mee. Samen strijden zij om de World Elite Title in de periode 12 juli – 25 juli 2018. Dat betekent dat het Football Factory WEUFT Team waarschijnlijk naar China vertrekt op 11 juli en terugkeert in Nederland op 26 juli 2018.
Invitation Letter World Elite University Football Tourament
,,The World Elite University Football Association (WEUFA), in conjunction with Tsinghua University, cordially invites Leiden University to participate in the 2018 World Elite University Football Tournament (WEUFT), provisionally scheduled to be held in Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan City, Hubei Province from 12 to 25 July, 2018. WEUFT is an international men’s full-squad football competition hosted by WEUFA. As the “World Cup” of universities, the purpose of the WEUFT is to promote university sport participation, and promote friendships among squad members of leading universities worldwide.
The second installment of WEUFT in June 2017, held at Tsinghua University was an overwhelming success. Twelve universities battled it out for the 2017 title with great enthusiasm. In 2018, we will invite 12 teams to participate in the tournament. All local costs including accommodation, basic insurance and meals for the period of the competition will be covered by the tournament sponsors. An optional and all-expenses-provided cultural excursion to a world-heritage site locally will be also arranged for all participants. Further details of the tournament and excursion will be issued upon your confirmation of participation.
China Trials
Vorig jaar was het WEUFT toernooi alleen opengesteld voor studenten van LVV Football Factory. Dit jaar hebben we de selectie ook opengesteld aan alle studenten van de Universiteit Leiden, Leidse Hoge School, Haagse Hoge school, etc. Dus je hoeft alleen maar student te zijn, en een goede voetballer… en mee te doen aan de China trials en je kan geselecteerd worden. De data voor de China trials zijn: 6 maart, 21:00 uur: (Universitair Sport Centrum Einsteinweg 6 Leiden ) en 7 maart, 21:00 uur: (Sportcomplex Duindorp SV, Houtrustlaan1, Den Haag).
A Note about Wuhan
Wuhan is the capital of Hubei province, a major historical, cultural and educational hub of Central China. It is well-serviced by international airports and high speed railway. Because of its key role in transportation, Wuhan was sometimes referred to as “the Chicago of China”. With a 3,500-year-long history, Wuhan is one of the most ancient and civilized metropolitan cities in China, with many cultural and site-seeing options available !
A note about Huazhong University of Science and Technology
The Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) is a public, coeducational research university located in Wuhan City. As a key national university, HUST is directly affiliated to the Ministry of Education of China. HUST manages Wuhan National Laboratories for Opto-electronics (WNLO) at Wuchang, which is one of the five national laboratories in China.
